I am feeling a bit better today in the knee department, still tender to the touch from where I impacted with the ground and a little swollen plus a little achy but I must admit, nothing like what I was expecting.
And after my massage today it feels even better. I feel like I hit the jackpot with my masseuse. She works out of the spa at the gym which means I get an amazing discount and she is just so very, very good. This was my second appointment with her and I am hooked! Her approach to massage is to find the spots that need work and work on them, she has talent. It doesn't always feel the best because let's face it... When you have big knots and tight spots they don't feel good to be worked on!
I had a 90 minute appointment and she spent a solid 30 mins on my bad leg. She says it is super tight from my toes on up to my backside and lower back, in fact it's the tightest leg she has ever worked on. Somehow the muscles that run across, the top of my feet and up the front of my shin were all extremely tight. All I know is that when I leave my leg feels so much better and moves freer and it is good.
She also explained that she thinks the rest of my body aches and pains and tight spots she works on are all directly related to that leg. That as I try more and more to be back to normal that the leg deficiency is causing my basic carriage to change causing imbalances and tightness all over. I guess I already knew that... But it's nice to hear someone else say it. She did recommend that I try self massaging the front of my leg, shin and ankle a couple times a week that it may help to extend the relief that I get from her working on my leg.
The other reason why I love her is that for gym members there is an awesome discount for massages! For 90 solid minutes I paid $89. And that includes all the good stuff, the heated table, the sound proof room, the relaxing music and nice smelly stuff.
I don't know if anyone else likes to get massages but that price is pretty darn unheard of especially when it is with such a good masseuse!
I do need to check with my insurance company to see if I have any insurance benefits that may apply, probably not with how the insurance benefits seem to be getting slimmer and slimmer but it doesn't hurt to ask.

It would be great if your insurance judged the massage to be physical therapy--it certainly is helping.
ReplyDeleteMy knees clearly impacted the rest of my body, so I'm not surprised if yours does too. My ankles were bad before the replacements and I have bunion on my right foot that ached as well. Since I have new knees my ankles are fine and the bunion really doesn't bother me much at all.
It is amazing what one out of place or problem joint can do to the rest of you. Glad the massage helps as much as it does.
I felt more calm just READING about the quiet aromatherapy-infused massage room! It can get pricey, so I try to do a lot of yoga and self-massaging inbetween my splurges on a massage (though I imagine if I were recovering from an injury I would make it a health priority!) My mother is recovering from knee surgery (which affects her entire back, as it seems your leg affects you), so she has been getting acupuncture! Wishing you a speedy recovery! (And Fawkes has the most gorgeous golden red chestnut color in your header, I kept reading on just because of how striking he is!) Corinna
