Walking between the rain drops

The weather here in Chicagoland has been cold and rainy. We have had a string of days of clouds and constant rain. Yesterday I actually had to be quite creative with my workout and I used my Wii to get in the majority of my steps. It was fun and a nice alternative to walking in the cold rain!

Today, however, was a different story. I had a late morning hair appointment and on the way home I had to drive right past a small forest preserve. It was raining when I headed out for the appointment but when I headed home the rain stopped. I took the opportunity and stopped for a nice walk. Fall has definitely arrived!

The walk was a good one. Full of lots of life. Baby snakes, toads, big grasshoppers and little crickets, a white egret and a red tail hawk. The sky's were heavy with ominous clouds but in the almost 3 mile walk it didn't rain.

Tomorrow I leave for a week of work in Miami. At least we get to stay at a nice hotel on the beach. I have never spent any time there so hopefully between the trade show, meetings, customer events and dinners I can find some time to enjoy myself.

  1. When I was out today when the rain stopped, it had suddenly come back and I found myself outside in a big open field with no shelter, and I'm talking total sudden down pour. As soon as I got back to my car it stopped, I am not joking, I would never joke about rain!

Have fun in Miami! A friend of mine lives down there. Most of my florida expiriences have been on the east coast, but I know Calder (thoroughbred track) is in Miami, may be worth checking out?

  2. Looks like normal Irish weather in the second photo.
At least Miami will be sunny. Hopefully.
It's funny how horse people take so much notice of the weather. When I worked in an office, I would complain about how wet/cold/windy it was and people would look at me as if I had two heads.

  3. What a pretty walk you had. I love seeing the little critters along the way. I often think they are better company than most people. *S*
